Sous Chef Job Description:

Translated as ‘Under Chef’, the Sous Chef is second in command to the Head Chef. Although the roles overlap somewhat, the Sous Chef undertakes a more ‘hands on’ role within the kitchen. Typical responsibilities of a Sous Chef include filling in for the Head Chef or Chef de Parties when necessary, managing the standards of the brigade and kitchen environment, cooking and plating dishes and dealing with suppliers. It is therefore both a managerial and culinary position.

Sous Chef Salary: The average salary for a Sous Chef is around £19k, with the range being between £15-25k per annum depending on the establishment and experience.
