The Business

The "Standard" is a High Street pub that behaves like a "local". The pub is in a very close proximity to Brookes University but also benefits from close proximity to private and NHS hospitals as well as lots of University student accommodation and residential. The potential to blend all aspects of local life into the pub is huge. The pub was refurbished to a high standard 2 years ago and stocks all the key major brands you would associate with a High Street pub. The opportunity exists to take food sales to the next level by reaching out to locals, students and workers.

The pub benefits from Sky / BT Sports, one of only 2 pubs locally to feature sports TV. Both Tesco and Sainsbury are in the area with Express stores as well as other major food retailers. Several banks and building societies are also close-by and should provide opportunity for lunchtime custom.

Role & Responsibilities

As a General Manager you will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the successful management of the business.

With the desire to excel, succeed and win, ideally you will have a clear understanding of high-street / late-night operations and how to drive sales and grow profit in this highly competitive environment. You will be energetic and focused, and able to adapt to the demands of both the food and entertainment elements of the business. With fantastic people skills you will have the ability to lead, motivate and develop your team and engage your customers. Upbeat, efficient customer service, high quality products and exceptional presentational standards are key, so you will need to be genuinely passionate about hospitality and customer service.
